Backstory
"Listen here Kevin, start thinking of a new career field, this surgery is going to change your way of life. Forget being a Navy SEAL..." Those were the words I received several months after completing SEAL Training and getting my bird pinned. Facing the possibility of partial body paralysis/weakness, needing assisted living, and decreased cognitive power, I did what those of us who know adversity know well... keep charging and take it one day at a time. One brain surgery later, weeks of hospitalization, diagnosis of rare brain cancer, months of chemotherapy, and continuous rehabilitation to account for hidden deficiencies, I kept going. I was never alone, but had the support of family, friends, and teammates. To bridge that support network and augment it, I had the support of charitable organizations throughout the years. Facing adversity alone is daunting. Having a support network permits a person to overcome many challenges. Fast forward to present day, I have not forgotten all I received. I have not forgotten those bleak days and trying times. I see my fellow teammates and friends experience their own trials and adversities. My inability to serve is now my commitment to supporting those that are serving and who have served and could use a hand.
